Viva Las Vegas!

I am just settling in after my week long trip to Las Vegas from attending the WPPI Conference at the the MGM Grand. It was an amazing event that included seminars and lectures by the top wedding and portrait photographers in the world including Jerry Ghionis, Yervant, Laura Novak, Matthew Jordan Smith and Bambi Cantrell (just to name a few). I was fortunate enough to win complimentary admission after entering a photography contest displaying my work and I was honored to be learning, training and to be inspired by the best of the best. Although I was in class most of the time I did have a chance to step out into Old Town and visit Freemont Street as well as the infamous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. I have been to Vegas a few times before but never wandered out of the center strip area to these locations so it was an adventure.

Three funny things instantly caught my eye while I observed this scene which made me have to grab this shot.

#1. Deep fried twinkies 99 cents (look at the right side). This casino offered Twinkies that had been deep fried in chocolate......how healthy can that be?

#2. The man takes the flyer from the "mermaid" and begins to enter the casino while the two woman at the right side of the photo hesitantly read over the literature that was handed to them. Were they scared off by the mermaid or just not tempted by the budget twinkie delight inside?

#3. Do these colorful women look like mermaids to you? Since when do mermaids have feathers and look like they belong in a mardi gras parade? Well, at least they did match the sign out front.

This photograph caused quite a stir at the Freemont Street Casino, obviously photography is not allowed but I sneaked one in before I got reprimanded.

Embracing this Loooong Winter

I don't know about you but I have had enough of this snowy, icy cold weather. This winter has felt like one of the longest winters that I can remember. As a child I remember stumbling into my house after sledding all bundled up with beads of sweat below my layers of clothes, yearning for that first sip of hot cocoa. These days I arrive home iceskating up the driveway in my boots carrying all my gear, anxiously awaiting that first sip of hot tea.

I can't help to recall a book that I read years ago, Laura Ingalls Wilder's The Long Winter. The book chronicled the autumn of 1880 through spring of 1881. It was such a snowy season that it was documented as "The Snow Winter" in history books. Apparently, blizzards lasted three days and occurred every couple of days.....OUCH! So, in hindsight if we get one big storm a week and the groundhog has told us that we only have six weeks remaining of this frigid frosty weather we are in pretty good shape. I am going to keep my head up...literally. Today the sun is shining the sky is clear and if I don't step outside to feel the frigid temperatures or look at the blanket of snow on the ground, I can pretend that June is upon us.

A post always has to include photos so I included some that I took a few weeks back when I wandered out on a snowy morning to this covered bridge nestled next to a frozen pond.

A Very Special Album

A close friend of mine that fosters cats had wanted portraits of her cats as well as a personal album personifying their individual personalities before they get adopted. After spending an afternoon having them stare at me, playing, then finally watching them drift off to sleep, I captured just what I needed to create her one of a kind coffee table book. Sweet Sisters

I had the pleasure to photograph a pair of stunning sisters a couple weeks back on a beautiful autumn morning. The two girls we so sweet and looked like they belonged in an American Girl catalogue with their coordinating outfits and breathtaking eyes. Sisters are one of my favorite things to shoot since I myself am very close with my sister who lives 3,000 miles away......hence the long daily phone calls. We had the perfect setting and the early morning sun shone so nicely through the multi-colored trees. Ah, how I love fall in New England!

The Three Musketeers

What a fun time I had with these three brothers on a recent early Saturday morning. Mom packed a great variety of wardrobe changes and the boys of course wore their suits and ties first, then changed into some great autumn sweaters and ended the morning in their Halloween costumes. What a fun time we all had exploring and spending some time with the local wildlife.

Final Beach Trip

I am so behind on my postings so this week there will be a series of several posts. These photos of the J family were one of my final trips to the beach a few weeks back. This lovable family included three brothers and were so enjoyable to be around. The early evening light was just stunning and we had such a great time. I feel as though I am in denial that summer is over even though I have been capturing autumn scenes these past couple of weeks. It is pretty crazy that I know that there are 251 days until summer, Sunday, June 21st 2009.

I am very excited with the variety of holiday card styles I have to offer you this year! I have five styles each of both vintage and contemporary. All of my cards are 5x7 folded and include envelopes. You can be as creative as you want with your choice of photographs from your session and customizable text. Returning customers save 10% if they order cards by November 15th. On another note, as we enter the pre-holiday season, I am in full swing with holiday sessions and my calendar is quickly filling up this month. Boys of Summer

Autumn is creeping into my drawers as I get out the wool sweaters and pack away my faded flip flops. The weather is drastically changing to crisp morning air and much cooler evenings and I am seeing pumpkins popping up on doorsteps. I am a bit behind on my postings so I am including photos from three different sessions of tots enjoying these summer days over the past couple of weeks. I had the opportunity to photograph this delicate little baby girl recently and at 4 months old, she had lots of sweet smiles for me.

This beautiful crib has been in the family for years and I was

very excited when mom brought it outside to get some backyard photos in the early morning sun. Big sister wanted to interact and push baby Erin (gently of course!) around the yard, which made for a great moment.

I love engagement sessions, especially when they are on a quiet beach, early evening with perfect lighting. A few weeks back I had the pleasure of photographing this passionate fun-loving couple. I told them to pucker up a million times and they did not disappoint me with their continuous lip locking. These two are getting married next summer and I am honored to be their wedding photographer....can't wait!

Natalie's Quinceanero

I had the privilege to photograph a beautiful young woman's quinceanero over the weekend in which four generations of strong beautiful women were celebrated. The event was filled with a moving Thanksgiving Mass. One part of the mass included Natalie's father replacing her sandals with heels representing her growth into womanhood. Following the mass was a waltz performed by Natalie's entire court at her reception. The evening finished off with emotional loving speeches as fifteen candles were lit by loved ones. Young ones danced the night away and sneaked in a nap here and there. Here are some photos from Saturday's event.
